The Digital Institute works closely with researchers from a wide range of disciplines to solve challenging, real-world problems. Society is increasingly dependent on advances in digital technologies, and Newcastle's researchers are at the forefront of shaping our future for everyone's benefit.

The Digital Institute brings together academics from the full spectrum of academic disciplines including engineering, medicine, mathematics, life and social sciences, the arts and humanities. These interdisciplinary collaborations have already led to more than £50 million in research grants, with more than 130 academics actively involved.

The three primary aims of the Digital Institute are to:

  • Disseminate information: documenting and publicising work from across the University
  • Create and support multi-disciplinary collaborations
  • Act as a front-door for potential collaborators, both internal and external
