This Joint workshop was organised between the Informatics Research Insitute (soon to be Digital Institute) and the Institute for Research on Environment and Sustainability.

At this workshop a number of presentations were made about how digital technologies have been used to enhance research into the Environment and Sustainability. Though it was realised that this was an area where much more research could be conducted. Some of the key areas for possible new research include:

•  Multi-Scale modelling
•  The Collection of information (from sensors etc)
• Data Merging and Agrigation
• Keeping data after the end of a project.

There was also some concern over the environmental impact of digital equipment. Though this issue was not directly focused on during the meeting. There is some up and comming work in this area such as the year of Sustainability for which there will be work on reducing energy comsumption of computers.
